The working principle of a thermal printer is that we have a semiconductor heating element on the print head. After the print head heating the thermal paper, you will find text word,graphic,barcodes have been printed on thermal paper. This reaction only happend when at a certain temperature, and high temperature will accelerate this chemical reaction. When the temperature is lower than 60°C, the paper takes a considerable time, even several years, to become dark; When the temperature is 200°C, this reaction will be completed within a few microseconds.

Since there are many varieties of leuco dyes, the color can be different, including blue, purple, black and so on.
