How to Install Drivers for Thermal Receipt Printers

Setting up your Hoin thermal printer correctly is essential for seamless business operations. For our 80mm series, there are two primary ways to drive the printer: Direct Port Driving and Windows Driver Installation.

1. Direct Port Driving (No Driver Required)

This method is often preferred by developers and system integrators who want more direct control over the printing process.

• How it works: You send characters (commands and data) directly to the printer port. The printer uses its internal hardware character library to convert and print the data.
• Advantages: It provides faster control and more flexibility for customized software environments.
• Requirements: You must use the ESC/POS command set to control the printer. The Hoin thermal printer 58mm and 80mm series are fully integrated with standard ESC/POS commands.

2. Windows Driver Installation (Graphic Mode)

This is the standard method for most users. In this mode, the Windows driver converts characters into a graphic dot matrix for printing.

Step-by-Step Installation Guide:

•  Double-click the driver file:  

A language selection window will pop up—select "English" and click "OK".

• click "Next" to proceed.

• Select "I accept this Agreement" to agree to the terms, then click "Next".

• Click the "Install" button to start the driver installation.

• On the "Printer Settings" page, select the appropriate port. For USB connections, you can use the default port (no manual adjustment required for most cases).

Parameters: Baud rate = 19200, Flow control = Hardware, Data bits = 8, Even-odd check = None.

Click "Next" after confirming the settings

• Once the setup is finished, click "Finish" to close the wizard. The driver is now successfully installed.
